Following the financial crisis the Basel committee on banking supervision (BIS) developed a new set of regulations aiming to improve the banking sector’s ability to absorb shocks arising from financial and economic stress, improve risk management and governance, strengthen transparency and disclosure. The main building blocks are raising the quality and level of capital, the buildup of capital buffers, the introduction of a leverage ratio, the introduction of short and long term liquidity standards and increasing risk coverage of the capital framework.
Learning objectives
This highly interactive 2-day workshop on bank management consists of two parts: a conceptual part and a practical part. The conceptual part includes discussions on banking concepts and key banking risks (liquidity, capital, credit, interest rate, market, operational risk) and will elaborate on the key differences between Basel II and III. The practical part is a highly realistic on-line bank management simulation.
Content
After this two-day simulation training, participants will have a good understanding of:
- The main banking concepts as well as the main banking risks, ie liquidity, capital, credit, interest rate, market and operational risk;
- The need to introduce additional regulatory supervision
- The main components of Basel III supervision on capital and liquidity
- The potential impact of Basel III on the future composition of banks’ balance sheets, dividends and bonuses
Lecturer
Frans was a successful Investor Relations Manager at ABN AMRO for 4.5 years. He also worked as a sector and mid/small cap equity analyst at ABN AMRO. Afterwards he worked for 7 years as Managing Director of the ING Markets Equity Research team. He is a financial trainer for more than 5 years and a senior consultant.
