Curriculum Vitae
This is one of the documents that is the most difficult to compose. A good cv is very important to give your potential employer a good first impression of your experience and knowledge. You cv is a summary of your career and education.
What is supposed to be in your cv?
First of all your:
- Name
- Adress
- Date of birth
- Telephone number
- Email address
A lot of people forget to mention their email address. Most of the correspondence goes by e-mail nowadays, make sure your email address is easy to find.
Next:
- Education
- Courses
This first part is quite easy… but then? Then the real work starts. Depending on how many years of work experience you have, your cv will be 1 or 2 pages, or maybe even 5 or more. It is often said that a cv should maximum exist out of 1 or 2 pages. Someone with 10 years of work experience won’t be able to correctly describe that in just 1 page. It is all about having a relevant and effective cv that gives the employer a good impression of your experience and skills.
What is essential?
A good description your tasks for each job you have done in the previous years. Use bullet points to make it all clear. The easiest way to do this is by describing what you exactly did in your job and then to describe additional tasks. You will get a long list of duties, choose these takes that are the most relevant and that will give the employer a first impression of your experience. Make sure that you at least have 5 bullet points with duties for every job. The best is to select those duties that are relevant for the job you are applying for.
You repeat this process for all the jobs you have had in the past few years. It does not matter if you have always worked for different companies or the same employer. If you had different roles within the same company, then explain those separately on you cv, including the relevant information.
This part of your cv will take the most time to prepare. You don’t write a cv in an hour, it will take you some time, depending on your gained experience.
Also list your education and courses that you followed. Do not forget to mention your system knowledge.
Finally, to give an employer an idea of you as a person, write a personal profile. Maximum 5 sentences to highlight your skills and ambition.
